Facial Rejuvenation
Facelift and facial contouring procedures to restore youthful vitality and freshness.
What is Facial Rejuvenation?
Facial rejuvenation encompasses surgical procedures designed to reverse signs of aging in the face and neck. The facelift (rhytidectomy) is the primary procedure, repositioning deep tissues, removing excess skin, and restoring youthful facial contours.
Dr. Geldres employs SMAS (Superficial Musculo-Aponeurotic System) facelift techniques that work on the deep layers of the face, achieving natural, long-lasting results without a pulled or artificial appearance.
Ideal Candidates
Facial rejuvenation is recommended for individuals who have:
- Facial sagging and descent of facial tissues
- Deep nasolabial folds and marionette lines
- Loss of facial oval definition and jawline contour
- Excess skin and platysmal banding in the neck
- A tired or aged appearance that does not reflect how they feel
The Procedure
Surgery takes 3 to 5 hours under general anesthesia or deep sedation. Incisions are placed in natural folds in front of the ear, extending behind the earlobe and into the hairline. Dr. Geldres repositions the SMAS layer, redistributes facial volume, and removes excess skin without tension.
It can be complemented with blepharoplasty (eyelids), facial fat transfer, or neck treatment for comprehensive rejuvenation.
Recovery
A compression bandage is placed for the first 48-72 hours. Swelling and bruising peak between days 2 and 5, subsiding significantly within 2 weeks. Sutures are removed between days 7 and 10. Social activities resume at 2-3 weeks. Final results are visible at 3-6 months.
Frequently Asked Questions
At what age is a facelift recommended?
Facelifts are generally performed between ages 45 and 70, though the ideal age depends on each person's degree of facial aging. Some patients benefit from a mini-lift starting at age 40.
How long do facelift results last?
A well-performed facelift lasts 8 to 12 years. Natural aging continues, but patients always look significantly younger than they would without the surgery.
Will the facelift look natural?
With the modern SMAS techniques Dr. Geldres uses, results are completely natural. Scars are hidden in the natural folds of the ear and hairline, making them virtually imperceptible.
Can it be combined with other procedures?
Yes. Facelifts are frequently combined with blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), facial fat transfer to restore volume, and neck treatment for comprehensive rejuvenation.
