What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a non-invasive treatment that uses concentrated light energy to selectively destroy hair follicles, achieving permanent reduction of unwanted hair. Unlike traditional methods such as waxing or shaving, laser offers lasting and progressively permanent results.

Dr. Geldres' clinic uses state-of-the-art diode laser equipment suitable for all skin phototypes, capable of treating large areas quickly and comfortably.

Treatment Areas

Laser hair removal is effective on virtually any body area:

  • Face: upper lip, chin, sideburns
  • Underarms and arms
  • Back and chest (men)
  • Bikini line and intimate area
  • Full legs
  • Abdomen and linea alba

The Treatment

Each session takes 15 to 60 minutes depending on the area size. The laser emits light pulses absorbed by the hair follicle's melanin, destroying it without damaging surrounding skin. The integrated cooling system minimizes discomfort during the procedure.

Between 6 and 10 sessions are needed, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, as the laser is most effective when the follicle is in the active growth phase (anagen).

After Treatment

There is no downtime. Normal activities can be resumed immediately. Avoiding direct sun exposure and applying sunscreen on treated areas for 48 hours is recommended. Mild redness may appear and fades within a few hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions are needed for permanent results?

Typically 6 to 10 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart are needed. Each session progressively reduces hair until 80-90% elimination is achieved. Annual maintenance sessions may be needed.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

The sensation is similar to a small pinch or rubber band snap on the skin. Latest-generation devices include cooling systems that significantly minimize discomfort, making the treatment very tolerable.

Does it work on all skin types?

Yes. Latest-generation diode lasers are safe and effective on all skin phototypes (I through VI), including darker skin tones that were previously difficult to treat with older technologies.

Can I wax between sessions?

No. Between laser sessions, shaving is the only permitted hair removal method, as waxing removes the follicle and the laser needs it present to be effective.
